Hmmm...interesting. Did you use some sort of off-camera ringflash? With the shadows, you're definitely not shooting through it. I've never seen it used this way. If you're not using a ringflash, the only other thing that I can think of is that you masked off the middle of an umbrella or octagon softbox, although the light source looks too small for either. I'm definitely mesmerized by her eyes. :-)
