I like Carl's pose. I love the background... the "halo" around his hair is visible but ads some magic to this picture. I love it!
Very nice colors. Carl seems to be sizing you up. The post-processing technique gives the image a very painterly look. I see two light sources. One light (likely the Sun) to camera left and behind Carl, and another light (diffused flash or reflector) to camera right. Basically, two light sources facing each other on a diagonal plane.
So, am I right? ;-)

This photo is almost like a painting if you just focus on the background and the slight glow around the subjects head. Great shot!
