What is that red stripe? There is hale everywhere. I can't wait for spring!

Awesome perspective. I have always liked "dug-out" shots like this. I saw a neat article in National Geographic a while back that was about soil. The article used several shots that showed surface area, plants and surrounding landscape, but then also showed about 4 - 5 feet of the soil beneath. At first I though that in some of the photographs the soil had been 'photoshopped' in. As it turned out, a backhoe had been used to carefully dig out a large pit so that the soil could be examined and photographed. Since then, I have wanted to photograph something like that, but just haven't pulled it off yet. Lucky for you, someone already dug the hole. :)
