Quick Self-Portrait

Had to take a walk in the very cold air today to get to an appointment, so I took along my camera with the 50/1.2 and shot a bit with it wide open. I think I really need to get the 85/1.2 when I get rich.

I focused on the stair that I thought my head would be at, but apparently I was off the plane of focus when the timer went off. Ah, they can't all be perfect, but it was a fun little experiment.

Ah, that's why I always shoot 3 shots, when I do this. One, where I think I should be. One, a teeny bit closer. And the last, a teeny bit farther.

Looks good, though.

I actually think the focus works. Gives it a little something extra.

This is really awesome. I didn't even notice the out-of-focusness until you pointed it out.

(Also, for some reason, before now, I figured you to be much older than you look...)

This is an excellent self portrait. Wow.

No zooms?

Specifically, it seems like quite a few of the photographers I know go with the 24-70 zoom.

Are you just a primes guy? Is the zoom too expensive? Or is it something else?

Great stuff btw, thanks for sharing.

I've got the 24-70 too Paul, though I don't use it that much. Only when I need a little longer reach than the 50 or when I want to get closer (the 24-70 is quasi macro)

my 12-year-old walked by the computer while i was looking at this photo and said "who's the homeless guy?" i had to laugh and tell her that it was actually our favorite portrait photographer ;)
