MOTION featured in April 2012 issue of Popular Photography

As I teased the other day, one of the images from my Motion series is featured in this month’s Popular Photography magazine. In this case it’s my friend, the lovely and talented, Eran Bugge.

So check out this month’s HOW section on page 39, it’s where they have a pro come in and talk about how they made a particular image. I guess that makes me a pro. There’s also a little two column interview with me trying not to sound like a jerk artist.  You be the judge as to whether I pulled it off.

New Project – Scaredy Cat Subjects Needed

I’ve got the kernel of a new portrait project and I need your help finding subjects.

I’m looking for people with interesting phobias which they’d be willing to face while in front of a camera. The weirder the better.
For an simple example, I had a good friend who has been terrified of snakes since a traumatic experience as a little girl. The idea would be to shoot her portrait holding a snake. Maybe even in the same location as the incident.

Fear of heights, open spaces, crowds of people, red food, paper, public bathrooms, you name it, I want it.

Think of it as a way to face irrational fears and make something great in the process.

Other stuff you’ll need:

  • You need to be in NYC  for the shoot.
  • You will be required to sign a model release.
  • You understand that this is not an opportunity for a free headshot or portrait session.
  • Most importantly I want people who want to make something great.

So if you meet all these requirements then send me an email to bill@billwadman.com with:

  1. A brief description of your phobia and perhaps how far you’d be willing to go confronting it.
  2. A recent picture of yourself
  3. Your whereabouts in NYC
  4. Your general schedule or particular dates which might work
  5. Any interesting places you have access to which might make for an interesting setting

Thanks so much and please spread the word.

Naked Extras Needed for this Saturday

As part of my December portrait project I’m planning to shoot Fleshbot.com editor Lux Alptraum this Saturday (the 17th) in the early afternoon.  The plan is to shoot from above while having her laying clothed on the floor amongst a group of naked bodies.  Those naked bodies are what I need all of you to volunteer for.

Some details:

  • If this is the first you’ve heard of me, I’m Bill Wadman, a very well respected editorial portrait photographer and the guy behind 365portraits.com a few years ago. As well as plenty of other projects since then.  I don’t shoot nudes very often and never this many at once so this whole thing is an experience for me as well.
  • There’s nothing funny going on with this, no sex or anything, I just need naked people.  We’re making art here. Think Spencer Tunick not Peter North.
  • I’m planning on having Lux be the only one looking at the camera, so faces can be turned away or otherwise covered by arms and such if you’re concerned about anonymity.
  • We plan to do this pretty fast, I’m hoping for an hour total shoot time.
  • You will be required to sign a model release. Who knows, it might be up in a gallery some day.
  • I’ve got a great location in Brooklyn, right off the Williamsburg Bridge. Closest stop is Marcy Ave on the J/M/Z.

If this all sounds like it could be fun for you, then here’s what you do:
Send me an email to bill@billwadman.com  and lux@fleshbot.com with

  • your name
  • contact info
  • a picture of yourself (doesn’t have to be nude, I’m just trying to get a mix of looks)

If selected to take part, we’ll get back to you shortly with all the location details and such.

Thanks so much. Can’t wait!

Rockwell Prints – Highwater heART Auction

A couple of weeks ago I posted the image below which I made for the Highwater HeART Auction to benefit flood victims in Vermont. I also promised that I’d let you know when prints were available. Well the auction is now live on eBay so you’ve got 3 days to bid on some great work including six signed limited-edition 16×20″ prints of my Rockwell-inspired “Telephone” image. They’re starting at $80, but I’m sure you guys can do better than that. If you’ve ever wanted to own a print of my work, now would be a good time.

100% (that’s right, 100%) of the proceeds go to to the Vermont Food Bank so don’t be shy. Let’s help out some people who really need it. Please spread the word.

Big Print Sale

I was going through my photo closet last night and came to the inevitable truth that I need to do a little fall cleaning. To that end I’m having a big sale on pretty much everything I sell that’s got my name on it.

If you’ve ever wanted to own some of my work, there won’t be a better time to do it.

Signed limited-edition prints have had their prices slashed almost in half in some cases. Now starting at only $125.

In addition, custom Adorama books of both the Motion and Drabbles have both had their prices lowered to $129.

You can learn more details and place orders through Wadman Editions. If you have any questions or problems ordering, please shoot me an email to bill at billwadman.com

… and finally, I’ve started to offer some of my non-portrait work as very inexpensive unsigned prints up at http://society6.com/BillWadman. So if you need something for your walls and are sick of IKEA prints, today might just be your day.
